HOH - All power to women?

A certain influential British singer has recently released the controversial new music video to her new single. She recently featured in my last post singing in the John Lewis advert.
Lily Allen is seen being encouraged by her manager to "Twerk," getting liposuction and dancing seductively amidst half naked slo-mo dancers.

To be honest, It makes me "Smile"  to see a talented singer frankly taking the piss out of today's music industry. My favourite line from the single "Hard Out Here," is "Don't need to shake my ass for you 'cause I've got a brain" SLAM!
And I have to admit, the beat is quite catchy and empowering.

So do you support the video that claims to stand up for feminism, or is including twerking and nudity making her just as bad as the likes of Rihanna and Miley Cyrus?

ooohh Boho Bun goes thought-provoking muhahaha

  10. I'd like to think her video would be more effective if at the end of it, she went back to her roots. All people are going to see is the booty shaking and not get the subtext or even hear the sarcasm. Great video though...have to add it to my rotation. Thanks for stopping by my blog as well.

  13. This song is actually very catchy! Music industry, it's such a sad thing. These days looks are way more important than actually having the talent to sing. Resulting in songs that only sound good on CD and are very dissapointing when hearing them live.

  15. I get what she's trying to do, but not many people are going to see the satirical nature of it. She definitely should have changed the video a little towards the end at least because, let's face it, a lot of people will pay more attention to the beat and visual rather than the lyrics.

  17. I love everything about this post. Usually blog posts involving music videos aren't deep or thought provoking at all. But this one really made me think twice about this video.

Personally, I find Lily Allen to be talented and gorgeous. I really enjoyed the song and the lyrics. The video was great...at first. I just don't understand why she'd include some of the scantily clad women that she is supposedly fighting against. But in a way, I think she's trying to say "it's hard out here, so I had to add a little sexuality too!."

Loved the song...but most music videos are pretty lame. This one's alright ;)

Just found your blog and I'm glad I did! I'm now following you with GFC and Bloglovin.
