Show your stripes

So I've been quite fed up with the usual paint your fourth nail a different colour trend so here's something different. I think it can look quite professional as well!

1. Apply base colour, preferably a quick drying varnish.
2. Cut two straight strips of sellotape.
3. Place on the sellotape on your nail so that there is a straight uncovered line between two bits of sellotape.
4. Press down firmly, especially central to the nail.
5. Paint over the tape with the colour that you want your stripe to be and allow to dry for 20 seconds.
6. Remove the strips of sellotape carefully and seal with clear varnish.

Tips
Be adventurous with colour
Be bold
Why stop at one stripe?
Make sure your nails are really dry (not squidgy) so you don't peel off any nail varnish

Amazing Aztec

Soon we'll all be returning to school, college and work. I've found this lovely Burgundy Aztec blazer from New Look. It was £22.99 and is now £12 (image courtesy of New Look)!! It would look great layered up with neutral tops and the colours would work well in the winter.

Get it (quick, seriously) before it's gone forever

Bobby pin rings

One solid essential which goes hand in hand with any type of hairstyle is the bobby pin. I've noticed the small pile of bent and loose bobby pins that I can no longer use are huddled in the corners of my room like survivors of a tragic war. You'd be surprised at the things that boredom, a bit of music and some  know how can do in vamping up an old bobby pin. My solution for it's next life is the humble ring.

I would suggest long bobby pins that are easy to bend. Also, if you want to protect for fingers you could wrap the tips in a fabric plaster.

All you have to do is bend your bobby pin into the number "6" shape below. Sorry the images are a bit dark :)

And there you have it, a bobby pin ring. Doesn't sound so silly now does it?

Also don't be afraid to get more creative using different coloured bobby pins and building on the above base.

The Lazy Summer Playlist

Salutations (if you're there!)
Lately I found myself in the inevitable and stressful task of packing for a short holiday. After the initial adrenaline rush of running around the shops, I was fed up with the thought of trying to shove it all in my suitcase. So I needed to calm down... and I started to sing. Okay and then all my folk told me to put a sock in it (quite funny as they were all over my floor.)

So, I thought lying sprawled on my bed, What can I give to mankind?? How about a playlist compiled of songs both old and new, for you all to listen to so you can entertain yourselves (and others.)

  1.  Train - Drive by
  2. Scouting for girls - This ain't a love song
  3. Nina Nesbitt - Stay out
  4. Emily Burns - Plasters, glitter and glue
  5. Fun - Some nights
  6. Gavin DeGraw - Sweeter
  7. Haim - Falling
  8. Eliza Doolittle - Pack up
  9. Gabrielle Aplin - Panic chord
  10. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
Or you could bump and grind to some hip-hop.... 1. Shaggy - it wasn'----lets not got there hey?

Maxi-mum chique

So it's quite fitting that I've been looking to vamp up my wardrobe with some cooling cotton essentials, what with my viscose/polyester addiction and my overly large woolly jumper collection. So I found this beauty on Boohoo.com that is perfect for lazy summers on the beach or to festivals.

And when buying a new dress, especially a strapless maxi like this, it's always nice to accessorize and this necklace is perfect, also from Boohoo.com.
Please note when it comes to taking photos for me, it's like trying to unstick my tongue from a lolly straight from the freezer...tricky stuff. Thankfully, these pictures are on Boohoo.com. On a more bloggy note, I hope this has inspired you to release your inner beast....goddess.

Top 5: Summer Goddess Skin

Besides sun screen, here are the top 5 skin care essentials to keep you glowing.

First, I would say that a good moisturiser never goes a miss. Other brands like the infamous Palmers cocoa butter for me feel too sticky when it’s hot. So I like the Jergens natural’s collections as they feel light on the skin and are varied to suit different skin types.

Move over CC cream, let’s keep it original with his older brother Garnier BB cream. This is my essential tinted moisturiser and it is great at covering up any marks, without irritating the pores. It isn’t exactly anti-shine but there is a matt version available. One tube usually lasts me 4-5 months so it is great value for money. (It doesn’t look that attractive in the photo I have taken, but at least you can tell how much I’ve used it.)

Also, you need something to free your skin of makeup so Nivea Daily Essentials gentle cleansing lotion is soft on skin (and it smells pretty good too)

So I take it you’ve been running round the shops all day rather than lounging on the beach. Rather than dunking your face in that bucket of water, you could try Sanctuary Spa & Covent Garden’s Pore refining toner to tighten pores (yes very posh), refresh the skin and smooth the complexion. I’ve found that the 150ml bottle is long lasting…or you could return to that bucket.

Lastly, it is my favourite product of them all. I’ve had enough of all these fancy anti-blackhead-blemish-spot-miracle-pore-all in one products that claim to free me of crappy skin but in fact bugger its up even more. St Ives Apricot scrub (the one in the image is the mini travel version) is a real gritty scrub that you can feel working and the apricot fragrance is great for summer.
